London-born Jerusalem-based street artist Solomon Souza, grandson of legendary modernist painter, Francis Newton Souza returned to his homeland for the first time to paint a series of vibrant wall murals called ICONS OF GOA that celebrate Goa’s unsung heroes: Former Indian footballer and captain Brahmanand Sankhwalkar, Kenyan athlete of Goan descent Seraphino Antao, Miss World Reita Faria, poet Eunice De Souza, jazz trumpeter Chic Chocolate, ambassador of Goan music Sonia Shirat and more.
The list of 20 local luminaries’ portraiture and the village walls that serve as the focal point for the display was part of the 2019 Serendipity Arts Festival under curator Vivek Menezes’ Mundo Goa project.
