Leg 4: Lumbini to Gorakhpur
Day 40 / June 5 – Lumbini to Gorakhpur
I spent an entire day in Lumbini exploring the magnificent temples, pagodas, and monasteries. The following day, I left to finally return to India.
Just 10 km separated the hotel from the Nepal-India border, and my plan was to board a bus after crossing the border and reach Gorakhpur. But I continued and continued cycling, and 130 km later, I had arrived in Gorakhpur. Although the highway was paved, unfortunately, all the trees had been cut down when the highway was constructed, and the 38-degree blistering summer heat made it a tiring ride.
I checked into Krishna Inn since it was close to the airport, and nearby, at a cycle shop, I bought a box to pack my cycle so I could fly back to Goa.
The following day, I flew to Goa via Delhi and arrived home at 11 p.m. after an incredible 41-day adventure.
