Jambo from Kenya! 🇰🇪
I have just landed in Nairobi! The bags are unpacked, and the bicycle is unboxed and assembled. Before long, I’ll be setting off on an epic new cycling adventure—one that will take me across the rugged landscapes of Kenya, Uganda and, hopefully, Rwanda over the next few months.
Because my route will weave back and forth across the zero-degree line of latitude, I’ve dubbed this expedition “Criss-Crossing the Equator.”
But there’s an even bigger milestone on the horizon. During this journey, my Strava cycling odometer is set to surpass 40,075 km—the circumference of the Earth at the Equator. Reaching that number while physically crossing the Equator feels like a truly special, full-circle moment.
I’ll be sharing regular updates and photographs of the sights, sounds and quiet stories that make slow travel by bicycle so special. If you’ve travelled through East Africa, I’m especially looking for the offbeat and unexpected—historical sites, local heritage and, in particular, the Goan connections woven into the history of these three countries.
