World Post Day, observed annually on October 9th, commemorates the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland.
The UPU marked the start of the global communications revolution, enabling people to exchange letters with others across the world.
This significant day was officially designated as World Post Day during the UPU Congress convened in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969. The initiative was proposed by Shri Anand Mohan Narula, a member of the Indian delegation. Since then, World Post Day has been celebrated all over the world to highlight the vital role of postal services in connecting individuals and facilitating global communication.
