One year of riding

“Nothing compares to the pure joy of riding a bicycle”

Today, Facebook reminded me of a photo I shared precisely a year ago on my wall. What makes this photograph unique, you might wonder? It was the photo I took on my very first ride on June 23, 2020.

After 35 years of procrastination, I decided to start cycling again. Six cycles were sitting in my garage after my niblings had used them over the summer vacation and discarded them.

Through 204 rides around Goa, I’ve covered almost 8000 kms, including six rides of 100 kms or more, the longest of which was 113 kms. I’ve cycled down city streets, through charming towns, across quaint villages, to forts, beaches, and forests, pedalled over mountains and hills, crossed several bridges, under the scorching summer sun and often under the light of a thousand stars, but most importantly, I’ve met and made many new cycling friends.

However, I have a long way to go before I fall asleep because the roads are stunning, smooth, and endless, and they keep beckoning me.

This evening, I decided to follow the same route as my first day and stopped at the Rachol ferry jetty to snap a similar photo. Coincidentally, the same ferry, the ‘Sal,’ was waiting at the jetty. When I started snapping shots, the person walking into the ferry was also wearing a red top. Serendipity!!!

These are some photos from my rides that I’ve clicked and shared on Facebook and Instagram, where you can follow me if you wish to.
